<p>A hydropowered turbine system (10) has a hollow base member (32) with an inlet fluid conduit (42) at its upper end in contact with retained water (20) under pressure. A flared (76) fluid outlet is located above the inlet fluid conduit. A buoyant needle valve (56) is slidably mounted in the base member to open or close fluid flow through the fluid outlet. A turbine runner (77) is mounted over the fluid outlet and includes a vertical shaft (30) connected to a generator (26). A plurality of turbine blades (80) are on the lower end of the shaft (30) adjacent the fluid outlet. The upper edges of the blades (80) are parabolic in shape and dwell in a parabolic plane (82). A flume ring (95) surrounds and is connected to intermediate edges (92) of the blades (80) and is flared in shape to be compatible with the flared fluid (76) outlet into which it extends. The blades (80) with the flume ring (95) are partially submerged in the tailrace (14) of the system to enhance air entrainment of the discharged water and to simultaneously mix the discharged fluid.</p> |
