Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is identified as having a role in regulating the phosphorylation state of cadherin-associated proteins p120 and p100 in endothelial cells. VEGF may therefore have a role in pathologies involving abnormal cell-cell junctions. Methods for visualising the phosphorylation effects of VEGF on p120 and p100 are provided. VEGF may be used to screen for agents which are also capable of affecting the phosphorylation state of p120 and/or p100, or for agents which interfere with VEGF-initiated signalling that regulates p120/p100 phosphorylation.
|
