<p>A color display (10) including an array of pixels (50). Each pixel includes a material (60) having a first and second optical state, different from each other, exhibiting birefringence. A first and second selected group of pixels of the array (50) has different first and second pair of axes of optical birefringence, when each pixel of the first selected group is in the first optical state. The first pair of axes of optical birefringence are oriented relative to the polarity orientation of a polarizer (20) so that when a first selected pixel of the first selected group is in the first state, light entering through the polarizer, reflecting from reflective layer (70) and exiting the first selected pixel, appears as a first color and in the second state does not appear as first color. Similarly, for second selected pixel, in the first state said light appears as a second color different from the first color and in the second state does not appear as second color.</p> |
