A particle classifier in which a rotor is mounted to rotate in a housing. The rotor supports an array of vanes (3) spaced apart around the rotor axis. A fine particle outlet communicates with a space defined radially inside the rotor vane array and a flow of particle-laden air is delivered to the rotor from a space radially outside the rotor vane array and towards the space inside the rotor. An array (5) of static vanes is arranged radially outside the rotor vane array such that an annular space (6) is defined between the rotor and static vane arrays. The flow of particle laden air passes through the static vane array (5) and is directed by the static vane array in a direction which includes components in the axial direction and the circumferential direction corresponding to the direction of rotation of the rotor. The rotor axis may be vertical. |
