PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk for high-density recording, in which electro-magnetic conversion characteristics, in particular high-density recording characteristics, are significantly improved, and liner wear and liner sticking are prevented so as to exhibit practically sufficient durability. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk is fabricated by providing a lower layer which is substantially non-magnetic on a support, and further providing thereon a magnetic layer in which ferromagnetic metal powders are dispersed in a binder. A thickness of the magnetic layer is set in the range from 0.05 to 0.5μm. The magnetic layer contains diamond grains having an average diameter of 0.05 to 1.0μm at 0.1 to 5 wt.% with respect to the ferromagnetic metal powders, and also contains alumina grains having an average diameter of 0.05 to 0.5μm at 1 to 30 wt.% with respect to the ferromagnetic metal powders. A weight ratio of diamond to alumina is set in the range of 1:0.5 to 1:30.
