A security catch which can accommodate large forces has two halves of a jaw catch (11) mounted inside a housing (18). The outer edges of the jaws are braced against the inside face (13) of the housing. When the jaws grip behind the head of a profiled catch (5) any strain from the catch is taken up by the catch housing rather than by the mounting points of the jaws. The outer edges of the jaws are curved and slide over curved profiles on the inside of the housing.
