Scenting of packages comprises mixing a perfume and/or aromatic oil at increased temperature with a solid aqueous dispersion at room temperature containing at least one polymer and at least one carboxylic acid salt, with application of the mixture to the packaging at 50-85 deg C, the mixture having, at the processing temperature and a shear rate of 100 s<->1, a maximum viscosity of 10000 mPs.. An Independent claim is included for preparation of a package scenting mixture containing perfume and/or aromatic oil, with a viscosity maximum of 10000mPs at 85 deg C and a shear rate of 100 s<->1, which contains 0.1-60, wt.% perfume and/or aromatic oil and 1-20 wt.% carboxylic acid salt, water, and optionally other adjuvants.
