The method involves compressing the gas flow in at least one compressor stage (V1-V3), heat being given off in at least a first cooling stage and cooling the gas in at least one additional cooling stage by indirect heat exchange with a fluid. Heat from the gas flow is transferred to an absorption machine (20) in the first cooling stage(s) and used as energy for operating the absorption machine. The fluid of the additional cooling stage(s) is formed by a working medium of the absorption machine and/or by a cooling medium that is itself cooled by the working medium of an absorption machine. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for cooling a gas flow.
