The system has a rotor and a stator, which each include either a permanent magnet or an electromagnet coil. and a fault detector, which is constructed to measure a fault in the motor through an excitation in the electromagnetic coil, so that a first magnetic direction of a rotating magnetic field is the same as a second magnetic direction of the permanent magnet, if the electric coil is aligned with the permanent magnet. An Independent claim is included for a method for fault detection.
