A lock for a door or window has a sliding catch (5) which locates into a recess on the door/window and which has a spring to hold it in the locked position. The catch is pulled back against spring pressure and is held by a retaining mechanism. The sloping face (5') of the catch faces the opening of the door/window frame and has the effect of pulling the door/window into the sealing position when released. A ratchet grip holds the catch in the locked position.
