Processing several command lists in data processing system, e.g. for monitoring chemical plant, production line or power station

The method involves assigning priorities (P1;P2;P3) to each command list (L1;L2;L3). The command lists are executed and processed sequentially in order of increasing priority. At intervals of delta t, the system checks if the cycle time (T2) of a command list (L2) of higher priority than the currently running list (L3) has ended. If the cycle time has ended, the command list (L2) is started, and the running command list (L3) is interrupted. Otherwise, the running command list (L3) is continued.
