The invention relates to a device (1) for artificially simulating a fire, especially for use in hearths of an open fireplace. The inventive device comprises a housing (2). For simulating a fire, an artificial fuel bed (3) and moving flame simulation elements (5) are provided in the housing. Said flame simulation elements are, in particular, strip-like, tongue-like or tab-like, and are reflected into the visible area (4). The housing also contains at least one light source (6 or 7) for illuminating the fuel bed (3) and/or the flame simulation elements (5). The flame simulation elements (5) are arranged on at least one moving support element (11) which is driven by a motor.
