PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily discover flaws on the surface of a slab, and to prevent degradation of the surface quality of a sheet product caused by the surface defect of the slab by providing a pickling equipment between a casting device to cast the slab and a hot rolling mill to roll the slab. SOLUTION: A slab 1 is pickled in a pickling tank 3, and then, the surface of the slab 1 is observed after the cleaning in water, and hot rolled preferably after removing defects of a surface layer. The slab 1 is charged in the pickling tank 3, the pickling tank 3 is covered by a cover 5, and the slab 1 is pickled one by one in a batch pickling equipment. Hydrochloric acid is fed from a hydrochloric acid tank 6 in the pickling tank 3 to pickle the slab 1. After the pickling, the hydrochloric acid is discharged into a discharged weak acid storage tank 7. Cleaning water is fed into the pickling tank 3 from a cleaning water tank 8 to clean the slab 1. Hume to be generated during the pickling is fed to an exhaust cleaning tower 9 and cleaned, and discharged into the atmosphere. Since scales are removed from the surface of the slab 1, flaws on the surface of the slab can easily be found.
