PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicon nitride powder which does not contain the impurities which are contained in the conventional silicon nitride powder and may decrease characteristics of a sintered body such as convensional silicon nitride powder and whose shape can be controlled from whisker-shape to globular shape, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The silicon nitride powder is obtained by filling α-type silicon nitride powder into either a carbon crucible or a boron nitride crucible and heating the powder at >=9 kgf/cm2 <10 kgf/cm2 and at the highest keeping temp. of >=2,000 deg.C under an inert atmosphere. The silicon nitride powder thus obtained contains. β-type silicon nitride powder in an amount of >=4% based on the total silicon nitride powder. |
