PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new DNA as the subject gene having a specific base sequence or sequence complementary thereto, exhibiting selective damaging activity on bacteria bearing phosphomannan on the surface, therefore useful in studying in vivo defense mechanism and lectin. SOLUTION: This new DNA comprises a pig serum lectin gene having a partial base sequence ranging from 176th to 922nd or a sequence complementary thereto of a base sequence shown by the formula, or having part or the whole of the above sequence. This new DNA is useful in producing pig serum lectin which exhibits selective damaging activity on bacteria bearing phosphomannan on the surface, therefore is hopeful of medicinal virtues as a physiological substance, and is useful in studying in vivo defense mechanism against e.g. bacteria having various surface structures and the molecular evolution of lectin. This new DNA is obtained by the following procedure: mRNA is extracted from fresh pig hepatocytes, and cDNA is synthesized using the mRNA and then subjected to amplification by PCR using a sense primer and anti-sense primer each consisting of a partial sequence. |
