PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6- tetramethylpiperidin-1-one., capable of easily producing the highly pure 4- hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-one by performing only a solid-liquid separation operation without using an oxidation catalyst and without a special purification process such as an extraction process or a recrystallization process after the finish of the reaction. SOLUTION: This method for producing 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6- tetramethylpiperidin-1-one comprises oxidizing 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6- tetramethylpiperidine with hydrogen peroxide. Therein, the characteristics comprises using a reaction vessel comprising a synthetic resin or glass for a liquid-contacting portion, and performing the oxidation reaction in the absence of an oxidizing catalyst, adding at least one metal oxide of nickel oxide and manganese oxide to the oxidation reaction product to decompose the residual hydrogen peroxide after the oxidation reaction is finished, and then removing the metal oxide by a solid-liquid separation operation.
