摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst which is suitable to allow aromatic hydrocarbons having >9 carbon atoms to react and to convert into toluene and aromatic hydrocarbons having 8 carbon atoms move useful as a gasoline base, and which has high activity, little catalytic deterioration and high selectivity, and to provide a converting method using this catalyst. SOLUTION: This catalyst is used to convert aromatic hydrocarbons having >=9 carbon atoms in the source oil having a component with >210 deg.C boiling point into toluene and aromatic hydrocarbons having 8 carbon atoms in the presence of hydrogen. In this process, the carrier used contains one or more types of zeolite having micropores of 0.6 to 1.0 nm max. pore diameter, and the catalyst used contains one or more metals selected from group VIA metals in the periodical table or their compds.
