PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of back damages of a work by lifting an ejector member provided on a lower turret to elevate a die, inserting a spacer in a lower surface of the die to hold the die at the elevated position, punching the work, detaching the spacer, lowering the ejector member, and idling a ram to return the die to the original position. SOLUTION: An ejector pipe (ejector member) 103 is lifted to push up a forming die FD. A spacer 121 is inserted in a lower surface of a flange part 117 of the ejector pipe 103. The forming die FD is set at the position projecting upward of a pass line PL. The work is punched. The spacer 121 is drawn out of a side hole 119, and the ejector pipe 103 is lowered. The forming die FD is not lowered due to the friction with a die fitting hole 113, but remained in the elevated position. A ram is idled and the forming die FD is returned to the waiting position below the pass line PL.
