PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate-form car washing machine to allow a forward motion key to be valid only after a safety check is performed when an emergency stop was made. SOLUTION: A car is washed by reciprocating the body 1 of a washing machine furnished with a washing means such as top brush 7, while a control device controls the operations of the machine body 1 and the movement of a washing means such as top brush 7 so that a controller of a gate-form car washing machine is configured, wherein the machine body 1 is moved forward with an output given by a forward motion key installed on the machine body for the brush 7 to avoid projections on the car such as a rear mirror R, and the brush, etc., is returned to the standby position inside the machine body 1 with an output given from a reverse motion key installed on the machine body 1, and then the control device retreats the machine body 1 to its initial position.
