PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict a decrease in throughput at a flashing operation by setting a flashing area for receiving ink drops when a flashing drive signal is supplied to a recording head to a non print area at the side of a capping means and a non print area at the side opposite to the capping means. SOLUTION: In the ink jet type recording apparatus having a recording head 5 loaded to a carriage 1, flashing areas 13B and 13A for receiving ink drops when a flashing drive signal is supplied to the recording head 5 are set to a non print area at the side of a capping means 10 for sealing the recording head 5 and a non print area at the side opposite to the capping means 10 via a central print area. At a flashing operation, the carriage 1 is moved to either closer flashing area to discharge ink. Accordingly, a throughput at the flashing operation is improved and a printing time can be shortened. |
