PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a method to sense the position of a rolling stock under running at any point without resorting to the distance information from the terminal station. SOLUTION: A yawing angular velocity sensor 11 and a tachometer generator 17 are installed on a rolling stock, which is put running in an operational division before it makes normal running, followed by measurement of the curving start position and ending position of each curve, the running speed and yawing angular velocity, and the length of each curve and its max. curvature are calculated and stored as the reference data, and at normal running, the length of curve and its max. curvature are calculated each time the car passes a curve and stored as the search data, and from the reference data, the data pieces are sought which are identical to a plurality of continuous search data pieces including the search data of the latest curve, and on the basis of the obtained data, the current running position of the rolling stock is specified.
