PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a working machine for cutting stems and roots for scaly bulb vegetables capable of raising up the root part of each onion into a proper state regardless of the size of a nearly spherical fruit part of the onion. SOLUTION: This working machine for cutting stems and roots for scaly bulb vegetables is equipped with a machine body 1 having a conveying passage part 13 for conveying each onion T from a charging port 11 toward a discharge port 12, a stem part cutting means 20 and a root part cutting means 18 for cutting the stem part T2 and the root part T3 of the onion T in a state thereof facing a prescribed correct direction during the conveyance in the course of the conveying passage part 13 of the machine body 1 and further a pair of root part raising rotation brushes 17 located on the conveyance upstream side of the root part cutting means 18, synchronously rotating in the mutual opposite directions and raising the root part T3 of the onion T. The respective root part raising rotation brushes 17 have many elastically deformable root part raising hairs 52 comprising acting contact hairtip parts 53 coming into contact with the root part T3 of the onion T and raising the root part T3 are formed in each root part raising hair 52. The tip position of the respective acting contact hairtip parts 53 is slowly changed in the direction A toward the conveying relatively to the conveying passage part 13.
