PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a strain suppression method suitable for preventing or suppressing occurrence of a welding strain in a welding joint subjected to sheet butt welding in a strain suppression method of thin sheet welding. SOLUTION: This sheet welding base materials 1A, 1B to be subjected to butt welding are held by a receiving side restricting jig 2 and a press side restricting jig 3, restricting force is applied to the welding joint part of restricting jigs 2 and 3 by fastening bolts 8. In this state, by conducting butt welding of the base materials 1A, 1B from a slit part 6 of the press side restricting jig 3, generation of the welding strain can be prevented or suppressed.
