PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the arc-starting property at the welding starting time, by making short-circuit of the output of an electric source through a reactor, storing electromagnetic energy therein, supplying the output of an auxiliary DC source in an auxiliary circuit for detecting the short-circuit between a consumable electrode and a material to be welded, releasing the short-circuit at the output side of the reactor when the short-circuit is detected and discharging the stored electromagnetic energy. SOLUTION: The output of the welding electric source at the arc-starting time is made short-circuit through the reactor 7 and the electromagnetic energy is stored therein and the output of the auxiliary DC source 111 in the auxiliary circuit 11 for detecting the short-circuit is supplied between the consumable electrode 16 and the material 20 to be welded. When the short-circuit is detected, the short-circuit of the output side of the reactor 7 is released and the electromagnetic energy stored in the reactor 7 is discharged between the consumable electrode 16 and the material 20 to be welded. In this way, the large energy can be supplied without flowing peak wave current having high peak value caused by melt-down of the material to be welded, and the current can be supplied without affecting to the short-circuit resistance between the consumable electrode 16 and the material 20 to be welded.
