PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of drivability or fuel consumption due to the torque variation at the time of air-fuel ratio switching without changing system constitution. SOLUTION: At the time of transition from lamination combustion to uniform combustion, present fuel injection quantity is made a constant value having an given increased quantity in accordance with target torque Te, and then throttle opening is controlled so that the present fuel injection quantity can have in-tube air quantity matched to the fuel injection quantity, that is, in-tube air quantity needed for realizing the target torque Te to reduce intake and suction quantity to correct an air-fuel ratio in a rich direction. When the air-fuel ratio reaches a lamination limit air-fuel ratio, fuel injection timing is switched from a compression stroke to a suction stroke in the lamination combustion to turn a combustion form into uniform combustion, and moreover ignition timing in accordance with the air-fuel ratio is controlled to make ignition timing delayable, to prevent a torque shock due to the increase of generated torque of the engine by the temporary excess condition of the air quantity at the time of switching from the lamination combustion to uniform combustion.
