PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a double oxide to be used for a secondary cell having a nonaqueous electrolytic soln. to realize a highly balanced state of the charging and discharging capacity and the cycle characteristics, by controlling the coating amt. of cobalt to satisfy the specified relation with the BET specific surface area of the double oxide. SOLUTION: The coating amt. Z (wt.%) of cobalt in the double oxide ranges 0.05×S<=Z<=11.50×S to the BET specific surface area S (m2/g). This double oxide is produced in the following process. For example, lithium manganese double oxide particle powder dispersed in an alkali aq. soln. is reacted with a cobalt compd. for oxidation at 20 to 100 deg.C to epitaxially grow cobalt oxide on the lithium manganese double oxide. Then the product is separated by filtering, washed with water and dried. The cobalt oxide produced by the oxidation preferably has a spinel structure. The lattice const. of the lithium manganese double oxide used is preferably 8.15 to 8.24 Å. |
