PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent composition having an excellent cleansing power against obstinate oil stains with higher progressed degree of polymerization by jointly using a specific alcohol to glycol ether that is conventional solvent. SOLUTION: This detergent composition includes (A) a solvent expressed by the formula R1O (C2H4O)m(C3H6O)n}H (R1 is a 1-4C alkyl or alkenyl or the like; (m) and (n) are each an integer of 0-3, with a proviso excluding the case that (m) and (n) are 0 at the same time; } is a polyoxyalkylene chain in which oxyethylene and oxypropylene bond randomly and/or in block when (m) and (n) >=0), (B) an alcohol of the formula R2OH (R2 is a 4-8C alkyl, an aromatic hydrocarbon or the like) and (C) an alkaline agent (monoethanol amine or the like are preferred). A compounding ratio of the component (A)/(B) is 10/1 to 1/1. Ethylene glycol monoethyl ether is preferred as the component (A).
