FLOAT GLASS FOR DISPLAY SUBSTRATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of defects in quality by providing a specified strain point and specifying the total number of specified deposits and recesses. SOLUTION: The float glass for a display substrate has >=580 deg.C strain point. The total number of deposits of 20-300μm size present on at least one surface of the float glass and recesses of >=1μm depth is <90, preferably <15 per 6.0 m2 surface area. The float glass reduces the frequency of occurrence of defects in quality such as the malfunction of electrode wires, the deterioration of characteristics of a liquid crystal and the reduction of the adhesion of an oxide layer. The Cl content of the float glass is preferably 0.01-0.30 wt.% of the amount of the matrix glass. The float glass may contain SO3 for refining but the SO3 content is preferably <50 ppm based on the amount of the matrix glass.
