PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide free-cutting ferritic stainless steel capable of suppressing the release of harmful gas such as gaseous H2S or the like and excellent in outgas resistance and corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: This steel has a compsn. contg., by weight, <=0.08% C, 0.10 to 1.00% Si, 1.00 to 3.00% Mn, <=0.04% P, <=0.10% S, 0.02 to 1.50% Cu, 0.02 to 1.50% Ni, 15.0 to 25.0% Cr, <=0.035% N, 0.30 to 0.80% Se, 0.0080 to 0.0250% O and other suitable effective components, and the balance Fe with impurities.
