PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a phthalocyanine compound capable of preventing or reducing to an extremely low level the corrosion of a reactor due to a hydrophoric and generated as a by-product in the process of the phthalocyamine reaction in the industrial production of a phthalocyanine compound. SOLUTION: In the process of producing a phthalocyanine compound from a halogen-containing phthalonitrile compound and a metal oxide, an alkaline earth metal compound is permitted to coexist in the process and be reacted together. Alternatively, an alkaline earth metal compound is permitted to coexist and be reacted together in the process of producing a phthalocyanine compound from a halogen-containing phthalonitrile compound and a metal oxide in the presence of a compound forming in the aqueous solution thereof at 25 deg.C an acid or a conjugated acid having a dissociation index pKa (the logarithmic value of the reciprocal of the dissociation constant of the acid or the conjugated acid) of not more than 7.0.
