摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound showing excellent liquid crystallinity, low viscosity and excellent response, usable for an active matrix drive method, useful as an electrooptical liquid crystal display material. SOLUTION: This compound is shown by formula I [R is a 1-20C alkyl, alkoxy or the like; the ring A and the ring B are each trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, a (substituted) 1,4-phenylene or the like; L and M are each CH2CH2 or the like; M is a single bond; X1 to X3 are each H or F] such as 1-fluoro-2- trifluoromethoxy-6-(trans-4-propyl)cyclohexylnaphthalene. The compound is obtained by preferably using a trifluoronaphthalene derivative of formula II (Wa is Cl, Br or the like) as an intermediate, for example, by reacting the derivative with magnesium and using the reaction product as a Grignard reagent.
