PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pre-treating agent composition for acidic hair dyes, capable of improving the dyeability of the acidic hair dyes and the retention of the color of dyed hair, when the composition is applied to the hair-before a hair dyeing treatment using the acidic hair dyes, by adding an alkali agent and an organic solvent and adjusting the composition to a specific pH. SOLUTION: This pre-treating agent composition for acidic hair dyes contains (A) an alkali agent (for example, triethanolamine, diethanolamine, isopropanolamine or monoethanolamine) and (B) an organic solvent, preferably an aromatic alcohol (for example, benzyl alcohol, anisalcohol or phenoxyisopropanol), and has pH 7.5-11.0. In the composition, the components A and B are preferably contained in amounts of 0.01-5 wt.% and 0.5-40 wt.%, respectively. The addition of a reducing agent such as thioglycolic acid, cysteine, a sulfite salt or a hydrogen sulfite salt to the above composition is preferable, because the dyeability and the retention of the color of dyed hair can be more enhanced.
