PREVENTION OF OXIDATION OF GRAPHITE ELECTRODE FOR ARC- TYPE ELECTRIC FURNACE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing oxidation of the subject electrode in an atmosphere at high temperatures so as to extend the service life and reduce the cost of such electrodes. SOLUTION: This method for preventing oxidation of a graphite electrode at a high-temperature atmosphere for arc-type electric furnaces comprises the following practice: a graphite electrode with microvoids dispersed therein is immersed in an aqueous solution prepared by incorporating 100 pts.wt. of aluminum primary phosphate with 60-130 pts.wt. of colloidal silica and 500-900 pts.wt. of water to impregnate the microvoids with the aqueous solution.
