PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope shape detecting device, which can correspond with a preference for the hardness/elasticity of an endoscope insertion section, or an insertion skill of an operator, and by which the insertion property into a body cavity can be improved. SOLUTION: This endoscope shape detecting device can be passed into a channel, which is provided in the insertion section of an endoscope having flexibility, and in probes 15A, 15B and 15C for the detection of the insertion shape, source coil 31a or the like is built in with a fixed interval d, and the probes 15A, 15B and 15C are respectively formed of sheathing tubes 30A, 30B and 30C having different hardnesses and elasticities, and the detecting device is constituted, in such a manner that an operator can select and use one which is suitable for his insertion skill or the like, and thus the insertion operation or the like can be performed smoothly.
