PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact gate opening/closing device and its method which can securely open/close a channel. SOLUTION: When a torque shaft is driven and an arm 11 is turned to A- direction, a link 13 hoists a gate 10. The gate 10 rises vertically along guide faces 2b, 2c to open a channel 2 by about 1/2 and bring it from the closed state to the half-opened state. When the arm 11 is further turned to the A- direction, a roller 10a is guided by a guide face 16a and a roller 10c is guided by a guide face 16b. Hence, the gate 10 is moved to follow the rotary motion of the arm 11 and vary from the vertical rising motion to the arcuate rising motion and the posture is gradually tilted. When the arm 11 turns from the solid line to the alternate long and two short dashes line, the gate 10 retreats to the upper part of the channel 2 in a state inclined against the horizontal direction and the channel 2 gets to the fully opened state from the half-opened state.
