ACTIVE CATHODE FOR ELECTROLYSIS AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active cathode for electrolysis so as to obtain a Raney nickel electrode catalyst having low hydrogen overpotential which is suitable for the cathode for electrolysis of water and alkali metal halides or for the cathode for anodic oxidization by using a Raney nickel cathode which is conventionally known for its low cost and having low hydrogen overpotential and high catalytic active effect, and to provide a producing method of this cathode. SOLUTION: A coating soln. having dispersion of Al powder and Sn powder and having 5 to 50 wt.% Sn content to the total powder weight of the soln. is applied on Ni or a Ni porous body, dried at room temp. and heat treated at >=660 deg.C. Then Al and Sn are eluted in an alkali aq. soln. to obtain a Raney nickel electrode catalyst.
