PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a cost required for a transfer drum and ensure a freedom of a working process in producing a filter cigarette having multiple compartment filters by joining a filter plug having two pieces of filter element to between cigarette rods in turn. SOLUTION: Filter cigarettes having multiple filters obtained by taking out from different storage parts 3 and 32 through individual transferring paths in a using length of multipieces, cutting and joining between two coaxially oriented cigarette rods 22 and having different rod-like filter elements are produced. In the process, a rod-like filter element is cut to paired filter plugs 13, 34 and 42 on the one transferring path and the rod-like filter element is cut to two pieces length of filter plug and filter plugs 13, 34 and 42 of the two filter elements are joined between cigarette rods 22, in turn. Preferably, a pair of single filter plug, subsequently two pieces of length of filter plug are joined between the cigarette rods 22.
