PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a porous hydrophilic polymer by forming pores in a hydrophilic polymer whose multi-pore formation has been difficult. SOLUTION: This porous hydrophilic polymer is produced by impregnating the real body of a hydrophilic polymer base material with at least one of the aqueous solutions of reactive substances for forming inorganic porous crystals, again impregnating the treated real body with the remaining aqueous solution once or in several portions, thereby reacting the reactive substances for forming the inorganic porous crystals with each other to produce the inorganic porous crystals having an average particle diameter of 0.1-20μm in the hydrophilic polymer, and then removing the inorganic porous crystals from the produced inorganic porous crystal-hydrophilic polymer composite product containing the inorganic porous crystals in an amount of 5-105 crystals/10,000μm2 by the used of an acidic bath.
