PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester polymerization catalyst with sufficient activity by comprising at least one metal compound selected from Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir and Pt, and at least one selected from plural compounds having a certain structure. SOLUTION: A polyester polymerization catalyst comprises at least one metal compound selected from Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir and Pt, the metal compound being 1×10-6-0.1 mole per a mole number of a polyvalent carboxylic acid component of the polyester obtained, and at least one additive selected from compounds represented by formula: Ar-O-X1 or formula I [in the formulas, X1-X3 are each H, a hydrocarbon group or the like; Ar is a compound represented by formula II, a methylene crosslinked linear phenole compound represented by formula III (in the formulas II and III, n is an integer of 0-99)] or the like, the additive being 0.01-100 mole per a mole number of the metal compound. The metal compound is a metal salt of Ru or the like, or a chelate compound of a saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid of acetic acid or the like, an unsaturated aliphatic carboxylic acid of acrylic acid or the like, or an aromatic carboxylic acid or the like of benzoic acid or the like.
