PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high basicity powder excellent in chemical stability even in the case the mold cross sectional shape is changed. SOLUTION: Relating to the high basicity mold powder having a ratio of CaO/SiO2 of 1.1-1.5, the CaO/Al2O3 is regulated so as to satisfy the equation CaO/Al2O3=α×(12×log10 L2/L1+3), wherein,α=1.0±0.5, by using the mold cross sectional shape index log10 (L2/L1) [L1 is the shortest distance from the center point on the mold cross section to the inner wall of the mold; and L2 is the longest distance from the center point in the mold cross section to the inner wall of the mold]. Then, the mold power may contain less than 5% each content of metallic oxide in the IA group in the periodic table of elements and at least one kind of oxide of selected from group composed of MgO, TiO2, ZrO2, MnO, Fe2O3 and B2O3 and further, may contain >=3% Fe.
