PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an algicidal method in an aq. system drastically enhanced in algicidal power by a small addition amt. of an aligicide in order to suppress the generation of algae in various aq. systems such as a pool, fire-fighting water, a reservoir, a fountain, a water channel, industrial water, an industrial cooling water system or an air conditioning cooling water system. SOLUTION: One or more kinds of chlorine agents selected from sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide is mixed with a soln. containing an org. nitrobromine compd. wherein 1-3 nitro groups are provided to a carbon atom at anα-position and/or aβ-position with respect to a bromine atom and the resulting soln. is held for 1-30 min to be charged in an aq. system.
