PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of printing failures because of ink not discharged or discharged abnormally by dividing a counter electrode to a first counter electrode and a second counter electrode, charging and discharging between the second counter electrode and a diaphragm to vibrate ink of an ink nozzle. SOLUTION: Separately from a segment electrode 10 opposite to a diaphragm 51, an auxiliary electrode 101 is formed similarly to be opposite to the diaphragm 51, so that charging and discharging can be carried out independently of a part of the diaphragm 51 to which the segment electrode 10 is opposed. When a nozzle corresponding to an ink nozzle 11 which has not been used for a long time is present, the auxiliary electrode 101 of an ink jet head 1 is driven to vibrate a meniscus, whereby the ink is discharged normally. The ink is prevented from forming a membrane at the meniscus without discharging ink drops. The ink in an ink channel is diffused and therefore a viscosity increase of the ink due to the evaporation of a solvent of the ink is also prevented.
