PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable chamfering of the linearly extending edge of a work by forming a cutting blade on the archlike recessed part edge of a base. SOLUTION: A planing cutter 21 regulates an edge circle when a planing shaft 20 pivotally supported, in a rotatable manner, in a rotating arrow 11 direction centered around an axis 19 inside a machine housing 12. The edge circle protrudes beyond the sole of a base plate 26 for a planing machine 10 and cuts a work extenting flush with the sole. The contrived planing cutter is characterized in that the part enveloping a cutting blade is wider than the other part. The planing cutter juts out beyond the sole face of the base plate 26 and a wedge 29 when the planing cutter is installed on the planing shaft 20. Thus the edge of a work extending linearly is rounded by the cutting blade. Consequently, it is possible to round the work such as a shelf board, a square timber or a board within the range of the linear extension of the edge.
