PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an embossing apparatus improving quality of a smoking article in producing the smoking article by using an embossed web. SOLUTION: This embossing apparatus has a laser sensor 26 detecting thickness after embossing and a controller 36 controlling distance between a pair of embossing rolls 10 and 12 through a gear motor 22 and a worm jack 20 according to a difference of a thickness S2 detected by the laser sensor 26 and an objective thickness T0.
