In a papermaking apparatus, e.g. for tissue paper, the web 14 is sandwiched between a closed-loop forming fabric 16 and a closed-loop transfer fabric 28 and the web and both fabrics are dewatered simultaneously by a first dewatering means 34 and by an air press 36 which is located upstream of the point 48 at which the web leaves the forming fabric. |
