A writing instrument so designed that when writing is stopped, the ink that has been fed in is prevented from being excessively pressed out into a pen body (5), the writing instrument being simple in construction and highly reliable. The writing instrument comprises a shut-off chamber (11), which is a small chamber, formed between an ink chamber and the pen body (5), the shut-off chamber (11) having air sealed therein, ink-chamber-associated and pen-body-associated relay cores (14, 21) that are resistance means inserted respectively in an ink-chamber-associated feed passage (12) establishing communication between the shut-off chamber and the ink chamber (2) and in a pen-body-associated passage (13) establishing communication between the shut-off chamber and the pen body (5), the arrangement being such that a negative pressure produced by the ink passing therethrough allows the air in the shut-off chamber (11) to expand and such that when writing is completed, compression of the air draws back a small amount of ink from the pen body (5). |
