PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a series hybrid electric vehicle in which the engine can be operated efficiently while preventing engine stall and over-discharge of battery. SOLUTION: In the control of a series hybrid electric vehicle comprising a generator 2 drive through an engine 1, a battery 3 being charged with the output from the generator 2, and a travel motor 5 being driven with the output from the generator 2 and the battery 3, an inverter input voltage required for driving the travel motor 5 is inputted, as a generator output command, to a generator control unit 7a. On the other hand, maximum output of the battery 3 is preset and the torque of the travel motor 5 is limited at a motor control section 6 such that the sum of the actual generator output from a generator control section 7 and the maximum output is not exceeded. Energy consumption cost is reduced by generating power required for driving only the travel motor 5 while preventing over-discharge of the battery 3. |
