PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable easy comprehension of necessary information, during vehicle running on an expressway in a navigation apparatus, which updates the present position as the vehicle runs and displays the position on a map screen. SOLUTION: Corresponding to the azimuth and the distance run for a vehicle detected by a geomagnetism sensor 12 and a wheel velocity sensor 13, a central processing device 3 selectively reads out map information near the present position from a CD-ROM device 4, updates and displays the present position on a map screen or displays, and guides a route to a set destination on the map screen. When the vehicle runs on an expressway, a plurality of character information related to routes of the freeway are arranged and displayed in the order of the routes, and exits and entrances are displayed with marks such as arrows or the like. Accordingly, the route can be easily recognized and a safety is improved. |
