PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify an operation for cutting out, classifying and storing part of the area of a picture original. SOLUTION: Storage area information that specifies areas M1, M2 to which picture data cut out from an original 1 are stored in cross-referenced with area frame information such as the shape and line type of the frame of an area to be cut out in advance. On the other hand, a writing tool is used to surround picture areas desired to be cut out on a paper medium with lines having the area frame information. This image processing unit has a picture entry section 3 that reads the paper medium 1, an information processing section 4 including a picture cutting out area recognition section that recognizes the area designated on the paper medium 1, a picture cutting-out section that cuts out the picture in the inside of the designated area, a means that recognizes the area frame information and a picture management section that converts the area frame information into the storage area information, and an image storage section 5 that stores the segmented picture to an area designated by the storage area information.
