PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct acting solenoid for preventing the abutting sound of a plunger from being generated, and for reducing the sliding sound and contact sound of connected outer equipment, and for simplifying manufacture, and for reducing costs. SOLUTION: A case body 3 of a solenoid main body 11 in which a coil 1 is arranged is provided with a plunger 4 movable so as to be sucked at the rear edge side of the main body 11 when the coil 1 is excited. The rear edge opening of the case body 3 is closed by a cover member 5 so that an air dumber chamber 8 surrounded by the inner face of the case body 3 including a closed inner face 5a and the rear edge part of the plunger 4. Thus, when the coil 1 is excited, the plunger 4 can be prevented from being butted to the cover member 5.
